Klondike --- X-Window solitaire
-------------------------------
by John Heidemann <johnh@isi.edu>

Executive Summary
-----------------

Klondike is a solitaire game for X11. It's strongly influenced
by the user interface of Klondike for the Macintosh.

Features of klondike include:
	- time-based and Casino-style scoring
	- persistent high score list
	- on-line help

See the "Release Notes" menu item for details about what's new in
Klondike.

Installation
------------

The quick answer to installation is to type:
	./configure
	make install
And then run /usr/local/games/klondike.

0. Install either wishx or the wish from Tk-4.1 (or later).
Standard Tcl/Tk is missing some features I need for Klondike,
so I originally wrote it using the extended features of TclX
	(using wishx).

Wishx was great, but not nearly as widely available as
standard Tcl/Tk. After some detours (including a perl-5-based
tclx emulator) tcl picked up some of the missing functions
and I put together the rest.

1. Run "./configure". GNU configure will find wishx and build the
Makefile. By default klondike will install over the existing
	version, or in /usr/local/games.

Klondike has two parts: the executable program,
some data files, and some man pages.
Unfortunately there are many reasonable ways to install
these for games. We try the best from these choices:

	EXECUTABLE	DATA MAN SYSTEM
	P/games P/lib/games	P/man Linux/RedHat
	P/games P/share/games	P/man FreeBSD
	P/games P/games/lib	P/man SunOS
	P/bin P/lib P/man normal programs

(where P is first /usr/local and then /usr).

You can override installation in two ways, with --prefix=P
	(which sets P), or with --bindir=BD, --datadir=DD, and --mandir=MD.

2. Run "make install" to do the installation.
You may need to run this as root if you're writing
	to directories you don't own.
